Q• What is hypotrichosis of the eyelashes?
A• Hypotrichosis indicates a condition wherein a person has complete
lack of hair-growth. It should not be confused with alopecia in
which a person loses hair that has already grown. When a person
suffers from hypotrichosis of the eyelashes, he or she has no growth
of hair on the eyelids. In simpler words, the person has no
eyelashes.
Q• How soon will I see results?
A• In its Lumigan form, bimatoprost is generally prescribed for
extended use. Once applied, Lumigan starts reducing intraocular
pressure within four hours. It maximum effect becomes visible in
about eight to twelve hours after application.
When using Latisse, growth of eyelashes can be seen as early as four
weeks. But full results are gradual and become visible over a period
of sixteen weeks.
Q• What if I forget to apply one night? Or a few nights?
A• Ideally you should stick to your application schedule for both
Lumigan and Latisse and apply the solution daily. If however, you
forget to apply it one night, do not apply it late. Rather, skip
that dose and start regular application from the next evening and
then ensure you stay on target.
Q• What should I do if I get Bimatoprost in my eye?
A• You should do nothing. Both Lumigan and Latisse versions of
bimatoprost are meant for treating conditions of the eye; they are
actually administered in the eye or on the eyelashes. So there is no
harm even if the solution gets into your eye.
Q• Could Bimatoprost cause the colour of my eyes to change?
A• Yes, bimatoprost does cause discolouration of the iris of your
eye when used for a long time. But the effect is limited to Lumigan
as it is applied directly into the eye. Latisse, which is applied to
the base of the eyelashes leads to darkening of your eyelashes.
Q• What should I do if I experience eye itching?
A• Eye itching is a normal short-term reaction experience when you
apply either Lumigan or Latisse. This is an indication that the
medicine is working and not a side-effect or allergic reaction. If
however, you experience excessive itching lasting a long time, you
should talk to your doctor.
